Princess Kate reveals cancer diagnosis

Mar 22, 2024 | 11:23 AM

WINDSOR, England — Princess Kate of Wales disclosed Friday (Mar. 22) that she is battling cancer and is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment.

The announcement came through a prerecorded video message aired following weeks of rampant speculation regarding her health and whereabouts after her hospitalization in January for unspecified abdominal surgery.

In her message, the 42-year-old princess, who had not been seen publicly since Christmas, appealed for “time, space, and privacy” as she confronts this new challenge.

“I am well,” she affirmed. “I am getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal.”

Kate’s condition had been a subject of intense speculation, with Kensington Palace providing minimal details, initially asserting that it was unrelated to cancer. However, the recent revelation paints a more serious picture.

This news compounds recent health concerns within the royal family, following the disclosure last month that King Charles III is undergoing treatment for an unspecified type of cancer, detected during a procedure for a benign enlarged prostate.

The revelation of Kate’s illness has spurred a renewed frenzy of speculation and scrutiny, exacerbated by recent controversies surrounding manipulated images and privacy breaches during her hospital stay.

Formerly Kate Middleton, the princess has been a prominent figure in the royal family since her marriage to Prince William in 2011. Her journey from a middle-class background to royalty has captivated the public imagination, adding a modern twist to the age-old institution.
