Preparations for camping season can begin soon

CHILLIWACK — As winter delivers a frigid punch to the Fraser Valley, outdoor enthusiasts can warm their hearts knowing they won’t have to wait long for before the opening of camping reservations for the upcoming season. BC Parks has announced that starting Wednesday, January 17, campers can secure their spots for the May long weekend, marking the beginning of the reservation season.

In response to the increasing demand for camping reservations, BC Parks introduced the Notify Me feature last year. This feature alerts campers when a previously booked site becomes available at a specific campground. Users can set up to five notifications for any dates at reservable campgrounds. Upon availability, a notification email will be sent, allowing individuals to secure their desired spot promptly.

A notable addition to this year’s offerings is Martha Creek Provincial Park campground, which recently underwent expansions to enhance the visitor experience. The new campground loop features accessible pit toilets, potable water, grey-water disposal, and comprehensive garbage and recycling facilities. The expansion has resulted in the creation of 32 new campsites, bringing the total to 108, with 83 sites now available for reservation.

The park offers a mix of reservable and first-come, first-served campsites, making it an attractive destination for a variety of campers. Notably, Martha Creek is the sole provincial park situated on the picturesque Revelstoke reservoir.

The popularity of BC Parks’ camping reservations continues to grow, with more than 366,000 reservations made in 2023, representing a substantial 15% increase from the previous year. The camping reservation service was revamped in March 2022 as part of BC Parks’ broader initiative to enhance digital services, ensuring a seamless experience from the computer to the campground. So, mark your calendars, plan your trips, and get ready to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of British Columbia’s provincial parks this spring.
