Snow expected along the Coquihalla Highway

HOPE — As holiday travellers begin to make their way home for celebrations, weather conditions could impact their journeys.

Environment Canada is predicting temperatures to fall throughout the day Friday, allowing rainfall to evolve into snow along higher elevations on the Coquihalla Highway (Hwy 5) and the Connecter (Hwy 97C). In a note on its website, Environment Canada says rapidly dropping temperatures may cause wet surfaces to freeze through the Fraser Canyon (Hwy 1). Up to 5 cm of snow is also expected along the Allison Pass on Hwy 3.

Yellowhead Road and Bridge (YRB), the maintenance contractor for much of the Coquihalla Highway and the Connector, says it is preparing from 5 to 10 cm of snow to fall at higher elevations. It suggests drivers should slow down and drive to conditions to be safe along highways.
