MISSION — The City of Mission says flags at civic buildings and facilities across the municipality have been lowered at half-mast Friday to acknowledge the passing of a woman who devoted her life to edifying the community through her tireless volunteerism.

According to a statement on Mission’s website, Rhoda Jacobsen recently passed at 103 years old.

“Our thoughts are with her family and friends, and everyone in this community who her good work impacted,” the city said on its website.

Jacobsen was a devoted community volunteer all her life, having started volunteering with zeal and gusto in the 1950s. She received the Freedom of the City Medal from the city of Mission in 2011 to recognize her outstanding contributions to the community.
