Chilliwack Fire Dept. responds to two-alarm blaze at vacant home on First Ave.

CHILLIWACK — The Chilliwack Fire Department was dispatched to the report of a house fire on First Avenue late Monday night (Nov. 13), a call that was later upgraded to a second alarm.

According to scanner traffic, Engines 1, 4, 1-2, Tower 1 and the Chilliwack duty chief were dispatched to the 46200 block of First Avenue near Charles Street. When Engine 1 arrived on scene at approximately 10:33 p.m., flames were visible.

Command notified dispatch at 10:38 p.m. that the kitchen was on fire.

At approximately 10:44 p.m., the fire was knocked down by Chilliwack firefighters. A primary search was completed around that time. At 10:53 p.m., firefighters confirmed with dispatch that the fire had been fully extinguished.

The scene was left in care of boarding up crews and the RCMP at approximately 11:36 p.m., according to scanner traffic.

Assistant Fire Chief Andy Brown wrote in an email to Fraser Valley Today that the fire was minor in nature due to the quick work of firefighters.

The home where the fire occurred is up for sale with a listing price of $574,999. The listing boasts of “investor potential” and indicates the property could one day house up to four storeys or townhouses, according to a listing on realtor.ca. The property was purchased in March 2021 for $650,000; the lot size is 5,400 square feet, or 0.12 acres.
