Chilliwack Fire dispatched Wednesday night for reported fire at homeless camp near church

CHILLIWACK — The Chilliwack Fire Department was dispatched to 45497 Yale Road, the Free Reformed Church, Wednesday night (Sept. 13) for the report of a homeless camp fire.

According to scanner traffic, two fire engines were dispatched to the intersection of Yale Road and Vedder Road at about 8:39 p.m. for the report of a small fire. The call that came in indicated the fire was in trees and bushes beside, or behind, the church but it was not spreading elsewhere.

On arrival, Chilliwack firefighters reportedly discovered a small fire in a homeless encampment behind the church. Firefighters had the small fire extinguished by 9 p.m.

According to scanner traffic, there is a homeless camp behind the church. A female inhabitant of the homeless camp wanted nothing to do with firefighters.
