BOOTHROYD (FRASER CANYON) — The Fraser Valley Regional District issued an evacuation order Thursday night, August 17 for the area of Kookapi Creek along both north and south sides of the Nahatlatch River, west of the Fraser Canyon communities of Keefers and Boothroyd.

The FVRD wrote in an Alertable public safety bulletin posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, that residents in the area west of Boothroyd and Keefers in the Fraser Canyon must leave the designated area immediately due to the threat to life and safety.

“Failure to do so could result in injury and loss of life,” FVRD wrote.

The area in question is covered by FVRD Electoral Area A, encompassing such communities as Boston Bar, North Bend and Canyon Alpine.

The evacuation order will remain in effect until further notice.

“We will continue to refine the Order as information is updated. All residents and visitors must leave the area immediately,” the order stated.

BC Wildfire Service is implementing tactical evacuations.

Residents who evacuate and require evacuee services are asked to check in with the FVRD ESS lead volunteer at Family Place, 65250 Boston Bar Station Road in Boston Bar. Family Place will be monitored for a short time. Evacuees may be redirected onward from that location.

Formal documentation will be released on the FVRD website once ready. If your primary residence is in the area, evacuee services will be made available on a case by case basis if you do not have insurance to meet your needs.
