CHILLIWACK — There were no injuries in a residential fire in Chilliwack Saturday (Jul. 29) afternoon.

In a news release, the Chilliwack Fire Department says it was called to a townhouse in the 46000 block of Russel Road at approximately 4:15 p.m. 31 firefighters fought back flames and heavy smoke coming from the garage of a townhome.

The occupants of the home were alerted to the blaze by fire detectors in the home. They called 911 and tried to beat back the flames before escaping the building.

Firefighters worked to prevent the fire from getting a foothold in the attic of the building. Once they were able to safely enter the building, they conducted an interior attack of the fire, while searching the home for anyone who may not have escaped.
