City to pursue improvements to Chilliwack Airport if B.C. govt. pays for most of it
CHILLIWACK — The City of Chilliwack plans to pursue improvements to the Chilliwack Airport if the B.C. government is willing to pay for the lion’s share of it.
At its meeting on December 20, Chilliwack City Council approved a resolution that would forward a grant application to the provincial government for a planned runway extension and runway light improvements at the Chilliwack Airport.
The project carries an estimated cost of $2 million, and the City of Chilliwack would be on the hook for 25 per cent of it, or $500,000, if the grant is approved.
The City of Chilliwack was notified earlier this year that applications were being accepted by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, under the auspices of the B.C. Air Access Program, for local governments and municipalities to seek funding grants for airport improvement projects.
