City of Abbotsford raising awareness of National Drowning Prevention Week in Canada
ABBOTSFORD — Enjoying a day at the lake or a visit to a pool is a popular summer activity. However, without good water habits, tragedy can strike quickly. Drowning is the third leading cause of unintentional death for Canadians.
The City of Abbotsford is reminding residents about the dangers of water. In partnership with the Lifesaving Society of Canada, programs are being offered to promote safety on the water during National Drowning Prevention Week July 17 to 23.
As part of the week, the City will host an education booth at Albert Dyke Park on July 20 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Meantime swimmers enrolled in lessons through the City, will be put through Swim to Survive training, where they will learn to roll into the water, tread water, and swim to safety.
The City offers lessons for many different levels of swimmers and operates a career aquatic training school. Anyone can sign up online at the City of Abbotsford website.
