Canada Post moving toward community mailboxes for roughly 17,000 addresses in Abbotsford, Mission
FRASER VALLEY – Canada Post says it will begin preliminary work on converting roughly 17,000 addresses in Abbotsford and Mission to community mailboxes as it seeks to “restore and renew” the country’s postal service and eliminate door-to-door mail delivery.
According to a statement, Canada Post says it has reached a turning point and is taking action to ensure it can meet the changing needs of Canadians in a financially sustainable way.
After meeting with its bargaining units and their agents, the corporation has launched preliminary work to convert the remaining addresses that receive door-to-door delivery to community mailboxes and modernizing its retail network.
The corporation says is initiating discussions with 13 communities across the country as it prepares to begin converting approximately 136,000 addresses from door-to-door delivery to community mailboxes in late 2026 and early 2027.
