CHILLIWACK — After a full week of brutally smoky skies that led to hazardous breathing conditions for Chilliwack residents, including efforts by SD33 to limit outdoor exposure for its 14,000-plus students, a regional air quality advisory has been cancelled.

Metro Vancouver Regional District has ended the fine particulate matter Air Quality Advisory for Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley that had been in effect since October 13 in the Fraser Valley and October 14 in Metro Vancouver.

Air quality has improved due to a change in weather that has cleared the smoke. Moderate northwesterly winds have displaced the smoke with clean marine air. The clearing began Thursday in parts of the region and fine particulate levels are now very low.
