CHILLIWACK — A Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson says the driver of a pickup truck has received a driving ban after he allegedly rear-ended another vehicle, which struck a smaller SUV Friday night in Chilliwack.

According to a statement from Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Alexandra Mulvihill, police were called to the eastbound off-ramp at Prest Road (exit 123). Traffic was stopped at the red light when the driver of a white pickup truck rear-ended another truck, which was then pushed into a small SUV as the lead vehicle.

Sgt. Mulvihill, who was present at the scene of the accident Friday night, says no one on scene declared any injuries. Both of the victim vehicles were driveable.

Police say impairment on the part of the driver of the white truck was likely a factor in the collision.

The culprit pickup truck was impounded and the driver was served with a driving prohibition.

Sgt. Mulvihill says the Chilliwack RCMP detachment received 12 reports of possible impaired, or impaired drivers, over a 12-hour period over the weekend.

“People need to reevaluate their decisions to drive after drinking,” Sgt. Mulvihill said. “While it is never a good time to drink and drive, it is dark earlier now, the weather is horrible and it is harder to see and perceive objects on the road. This Friday is Halloween night, and there can not be a repeat of this past Friday.”
