Chilliwack firefighters battle shed fire on Watson Road early Sunday morning

CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack firefighters were called to Watson Road in Sardis after a shed attached to a home erupted in flames in the early morning hours on Sunday (Oct. 26).

Chilliwack Assistant Fire Chief Krista Minar says firefighters were paged just before 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning for the report of a fire in a shed attached to a home in the 44900 block of Watson Road, located about 400-500 meters west of the Tyson/Watson roundabout.

Crews from Halls 1 and 4 responded to the call. Once they arrived, firefighters witnessed a fully involved attached shed in the backyard. Fire personnel mounted what Minar called an “aggressive attack,” working against high winds while establishing a water supply.

“The quick and coordinated knockdown significantly reduced damage and prevented the fire from spreading to the home,” Minar said.

There were no injuries reported to either the public or responding firefighters who attended.

Minar says the home itself was not affected, and residents were able to return to the home once the scene was secured. However, the attached structure sustained extensive fire damage.

Initial reports suggest the fire was accidental in nature. The cause remains under investigation by the Chilliwack Fire Department.
