FVRD to consider motion on contravention of building bylaws at Popkum property
CHILLIWACK — The Fraser Valley Regional District board will consider a motion at their meeting today to take administrative action against a property owner in Popkum who has allegedly contravened building bylaws.
According to the text of item 12.4 on today’s agenda, FVRD directors will be asked to approve a motion to file a notice with the Land Title Office about the actions of a property owner in the 52900 block of Yale Road regarding ongoing contraventions.
An FVRD staff report states that on April 6, 2022, an FVRD bylaw officer investigated a complaint of an addition and renovations to a shop being constructed without a building permit. FVRD says it determined there had been an incomplete application for a project, and a permit was never issued since there were six required application documents that remained outstanding.
The FVRD bylaw officer attended the site and confirmed interior renovations and an addition had occurred, noting that the ground area inside and outside the shop was prepared with rebar to pour concrete. The bylaw officer spoke with the owner on the phone while on site advising that her permit remained in the application stage, it had not been issued, and no work was to take place until the permit was issued. The owner stated said she had all her permits approved and was told she could put an extension on her shop and has email proof. The bylaw officer posted a stop work notice on the structure and advised no work could continue until the permits were issued.
