Fireworks discharge disrupts Abbotsford Airport operations Tuesday: AbbyPD spokesperson
ABBOTSFORD — A spokesperson for the Abbotsford Police Department says officers responded to a multitude of fireworks-related calls across the city Tuesday night, including instances where flight operations at YXX were disrupted.
According to a statement from AbbyPD spokesperson Sgt. Paul Walker, police say they responded to nearly 50 calls of fireworks being set off across various neighbourhoods – including incidents that impacted Abbotsford International Airport – all while managing a number of serious incidents.
“In several instances, these fireworks disrupted flight operations at the Abbotsford Airport — a matter of significant concern for public safety and aviation,” Sgt. Walker said. “AbbyPD officers, in partnership with City of Abbotsford Bylaw Enforcement officers, continue to actively enforce the community-wide ban on fireworks. We appreciate your cooperation as we work to address these violations, maintain public safety, and prioritize calls for service based on urgency and risk to the community.”
