UPDATE: A spokesperson for the Upper Fraser Valley RCMP detachment in Chilliwack says Sunday’s incident on Chilliwack Lake Road involved a mental health call where a subject was threatening harm with a firearm – and a second similar incident unfolded around the same time.

Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Alexandra Mulvihill says the Emergency Response Team and a crisis negotiator attended the scene, which was brought to a conclusion with no injuries sustained to the public or police personnel.

“While the initial call was being handled, there was a second mental health call in the area where the subject was threatening harm with a weapon. This incident was also brought to conclusion with no injuries to public or police personnel. Both subjects were taken to hospital and left in the care of medical staff,” Sgt. Mulvihill said.

Video from the scene indicates police have asked a person, or persons, to exit the trailer.

“…[W]e need you to help us with this. We need you to come out, please,” audio from the scene reveals. “Just open the blinds so that we can see you’re okay.”

Chilliwack resident Ross Aikenhead tells Fraser Valley Today he believes the trailer involved in the situation is a squatters camp.

Police have blocked Chilliwack Lake Road in both directions west and east of the trailer.
