Student-led doughnut drive donates crucial milk warmer for Abbotsford hospital

ABBOTSFORD — An Abbotsford hospital has recently sweetened up with doughnuts and warm milk, thanks to a youth-led Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation (FVHCF) program.

The Krispy Kreme fundraising initiative, led by local student Sourav Arora, received an overwhelming response from the community, successfully helping with the purchase of a breast milk warmer for the Abbotsford Regional Hospital’s maternity ward.

“We wanted to do our contribution and support the maternity unit so that mothers and healthcare staff in that unit can hopefully have better access to all the resources they need”, said Arora.

“What I loved the most is how generous our community was to supporting FVHCF…I remember one elderly man saying he was waiting to get an ultrasound, so he recognised the need for funding”.

This October, the program has launched “Doughnuts for a Difference: a Spooktacular Autumn Appeal” for the hospital’s geriatric clinic.

Interested customers can pre-order doughnuts in advance online and be entered into a prize draw.

The FVHCF Youth Program is comprised of volunteers aged 15-24, raising money and awareness for hospitals and other health care programs throughout the Fraser Valley.
