Another fire at a homeless camp reported in Mission

MISSION — For the second time in a week, and third time in less than a month, a fire has broken out at a homeless encampment in Mission.

Mission Fire Rescue Service says firefighters responded just before 5 a.m. Wednesday morning to a tent on fire inside a homeless encampment behind Burger King at 32471 Lougheed Highway.

Firefighters spent more than two hours working to extinguish the fire.

No injuries were reported.

On Friday evening, October 10, firefighters in Mission battled a fire at a homeless camp behind Real Canadian Superstore at 32136 Lougheed Highway. Mission Fire Rescue Service said they succeeded in getting the blaze under control, as crews worked to extinguish hot spots. Three fire units attended and a dozen firefighters were involved in suppressing the fire.

On Monday, Sept. 22, a person was rescued from burning bushes after an encampment set ablaze near Mission Visitor Centre. Mission Fire Rescue Service responded to reports of the fire on Lougheed Highway at around 11 a.m., but before that response, several community members stepped up to help.
