Power outages reported across Fraser Valley and Lower Mainland

CHILLIWACK — More than eight thousand BC Hydro customers across the B.C. Lower Mainland and the Sunshine Coast have been left without power to start their Thanksgiving Day.

The largest outage is in the Chilliwack area, where power is out East of Majuba Hill Road, according to the BC Hydro Outage map. More than 2,500 homes and businesses are affected by the outage. As of 9:30 a.m., BC Hydro reports the cause of the outage is still under investigation. Several more outages are being reported across Chilliwack. The cause of the outages is listed as trees across wires and transmission circuit failures.

Another large outage is reported in Abbotsford. More than 2,200 homes and businesses located south of Highway 1 and west of Sumas Way have been left without power. Another area east of Sumas Way and West of McDermott Road is affecting nearly 1,100 homes and businesses. Several more outages are also being reported in Abbotsford and Mission. The causes are also listed as trees across wires and transmission circuit failures.

BC Hydro repair crews have been activated and are in the field working on the outages.
