Chilliwack Cultural Centre to host modern retelling of Jane Austen’s Emma
CHILLIWACK — A modern riff on a literary classic is stepping up onstage at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre this month.
Written by Vancouver-based playwright Adriel Brandt, “Fare Thee Well, Poor Miss Taylor” takes the characters of Jane Austen’s “Emma” into a modern Vancouver apartment, where the titular character’s party unfolds into an evening that’s equal parts hilarious and heartwarming.
“Brandt’s script treasures the essence of the original novel while daring to reimagine its characters through a modern lens by highlighting themes of love, friendship, and the fragile nature of self-assuredness in ways that resonate with today’s audiences,” said the Centre in a release.
The event is set to start at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22, as part of the Centre’s first Queer Art Festival.
