Chilliwack residents head to the polls today to vote for mayor, city council, and school board

CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack voters in city limits who haven’t already voted by mail or at one of two advance polling dates still have the option of voting today at six locations across the city.

Polls will be open today from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day.

There are six polling stations available at the following locations:

  • Greendale Elementary Community School – 6621 Sumas Prairie Road
  • Landing Sports Centre, 45530 Spadina Avenue
  • Promontory Heights Elementary School – 46200 Stoneview Drive
  • Rosedale Traditional Community School – 50850 Yale Road
  • Sardis Secondary School – 45460 Stevenson Road
  • Yarrow Community School – 4595 Wilson Road

Voters will be casting a ballot for mayor, six city councillors and seven School District 33 trustees.

The mayoral contest features incumbent Ken Popove against challenger Ian Carmichael.

Popove was first voted into office in 2011 and was elected mayor back in 2018.

Carmichael previously ran as a council candidate twice but was not elected.

In the race for Chilliwack City Council, there are five incumbents vying for a four-year term against seven challengers, for a total of 12 candidates. The incumbents are Councillors Jason Lum, Chris Kloot, Bud Mercer, Harv Westeringh and Jeff Shields.

The seven challengers consist of Brent Bowker, Craig Hill, Amber Price, Jared Mumford, Nicole Huitema Read, Mike McLatchy, and Debora Soutar.

In the Chilliwack school board race, there are six incumbents seeking a four-year term against nine challengers. The six incumbents consist of Barry Neufeld, Willow Reichelt, Darrell Furgason, Carin Bondar, Heather Maahs, and David Swankey.

The nine school board challengers are Elliott Friesen, Kaethe Jones, Lewis Point, Richard Procee, Darren Ollinger, Greg Nelmes, Margaret Reid, Teri Westerby, and Brian VanGarderen.

For residents living outside of Chilliwack city limits in Popkum and Bridal Falls in Electoral Area D who wish to cast their ballots for Chilliwack school board, they must travel approximately 20 kilometers to the Fraser Valley Regional District office at 45950 Cheam Avenue and vote in the 4th floor boardroom.

For residents of Electoral Area H, which consists of Cultus Lake, Soowahlie First Nation, and Columbia Valley, they may cast their vote for Chilliwack school board at Cultus Lake Community Hall, 4220 Columbia Valley Road.
