CHILLIWACK — Teamsters Local 213 is looking to train the next generation of trucking and warehousing professionals with a new site in west Chilliwack.

The 13,000-square-foot facility, located at 7984 Venture Place, will feature three classrooms, multiple driving simulators and a lot that’s equal parts paved and gravel – designed to train both future commercial drivers and off-road vehicle operators, such as those who drive rock trucks and front-end loaders.

“We came to a point where we looked at the training that’s being offered in the industry and we really wanted to put a Teamsters’ stamp on the quality, proficiency and diversity of the courses offered,” said Konrad Sears, administrator with the Teamsters 213 Training School.

This marks the first time the local has operated its own physical training site since the 1980s, launching the facility in response to an ongoing shortage of skilled commercial truckers in B.C.

“This is a big step for us,” said Teamsters 213 principal officer Tony Santavenere. “We’re looking forward to providing students with, not only the best in training for commercial trucking and warehousing, but the best connections to good jobs in the transport and construction industries.”

The school is expected to be the largest Teamster training site in Western Canada by the time it reaches full capacity.

Teamsters Local 213 and Labourers’ International Union of North America Local 1611 have invited political officials to a launch at noon this Saturday, October 4.

A grand opening is scheduled for members at a later date.
