High streamflow advisory put in place along coastal regions
CHILLIWACK — A high streamflow advisory is in place for much of the coast of B.C. as widespread rain will hammer the south coast throughout the weekend.
An advisory from the Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship says a storm system has arrived on coastal B.C., and the system will target Vancouver Island and Metro Vancouver after moving from the central coast. The Fraser Valley may see light rain over the weekend. Heavier rain is expected later in the week.
The advisory covers the Lower Mainland, Sunshine Coast, Vancouver Island, and other coastal communities.
The ministry says it’s unlikely that the incoming storm system will lead to widespread flooding in Metro Vancouver or on Vancouver Island, but rivers are expected to rise rapidly throughout today.
