Hope RCMP launches increased crime reduction initiative

HOPE — The RCMP detachment in Hope is ramping up its enforcement efforts with the launch of a new crime reduction program.

Project CREVO, or Crime Reduction through Enforcement, Visibility, and Outreach, is a multi-pronged strategy designed to build stronger trust between residents and law enforcement while also preventing crime.

“This initiative reflects our commitment to a safer community, helps to deter disorderly behaviour and creates more inviting areas for residents and tourists to frequent,” said S/Sgt Mike Sargent of the Hope RCMP.

“By combining visibility, enforcement, and outreach, we aim not only to reduce crime but also to build lasting trust with the people we serve.”

Key components include increased foot and vehicle patrols in high-crime areas, such as the downtown core, data-driven enforcement strategies, and community engagement.

The initiative kicked off in early August and is set to run through December.

Project CREVO is funded by the B.C. government’s Community Safety and Targeted Enforcement Program (C-STEP), which supports strategies aimed at reducing non-violent crime through community-based efforts.
