CHILLIWACK — A spokesperson for the Chilliwack RCMP detachment says a man who was wanted by police has been arrested after an overnight foot pursuit in downtown Chilliwack.

According to a statement from RCMP Sgt. Alexandra Mulvihill, a male who had warrants for his arrest engaged RCMP members in a foot pursuit around Princess Avenue, First Avenue and Nowell Street earlier today (Wednesday, Sept. 3).

Sgt. Mulvihill says the male was trying to hide in people’s backyards, under their porches and in trees.

The male was ultimately taken into custody.

The original report of a possible domestic incident was unfounded, Sgt. Mulvihill said.

A Chilliwack resident posted on Facebook urging people in the downtown area to lock their doors after believing that someone tried to enter her home on Fourth Avenue.

“Lock your doors. 12:37 a.m. and someone just tried to come into my house,” the lady said. “Downtown core – Fourth Ave. By the time I made it to the door they took off – went down the alley way and headed towards Young. By the time I got my boyfriend up they were gone gone.”
