Mission hospital temporarily shutting down E.R. for 4th time this year

MISSION — A lack of doctors is causing a temporary service interruption at the Mission Memorial Hospital’s emergency department starting tonight (Aug. 3).

At 5:00 p.m., emergency-trained nurses will be helping redirect patients to the right care or neighbouring hospitals, as well as assisting walk-ins who only need basic care.

The closure helps to ensure patients already in the department can be seen before physicians end their shifts at 11:00 p.m.

Anyone with a life-threatening emergency, like chest pain or severe bleeding, is asked to call 9-1-1 to be taken to the nearest available and appropriate facility.

Non-emergencies may be directed to Mission Urgent and Primary Care Centre, Ridge Meadows Urgent and Primary Care Centre, or Abbotsford Urgent and Primary Care Centre during their regular hours of operation.

This now marks the fourth time Mission Memorial has had to suspend urgent care services due to physician shortages in 2025.

The shutdown is set to last until Monday, August 4, at 8:00 a.m.
