HOPE — A small wildfire that sparked earlier last month near Highway 1 in Hope has intensified again on Saturday morning (Aug. 2).

“Hope Fire is currently aware of increased fire behaviour on the ongoing Silver Creek Wildfire,” said the Hope Fire Department on social media. “BC Wildfire has resumed control operations from the air.”

The fire, located on Serpent’s Back Trail, was classified as being held at the BC Wildfire Service’s (BCWS) update only a week prior. It has now been upgraded back to being out of control.

Nearby witnesses report that at least two helicopters have been dispatched to the area.
