UPDATE: Downtown Chilliwack Business Assn. pledges to support businesses impacted by fire

Jul 16, 2025 | 10:10 AM

UPDATE 4:15 P.M.: The Downtown Chilliwack Business Improvement Association has released a statement Wednesday pledging to work with businesses who have been impacted by the overnight fire that left significant damage in the 45800 block of Wellington Avenue.

“Our hearts go out to the amazing businesses on Wellington Avenue that were affected by a devastating building fire in the early hours this morning,” Downtown Chilliwack BIA wrote on Facebook. “We are grateful no one was injured in this fire and we thank our Fire Departments for their hard work in containing this fire to one building.”
The Downtown Chilliwack BIA says fire crews were able to contain the fire to one building, though Jin Sing Jewellers and Penguin Ice Cream were affected by smoke and water damage. The BIA did not reference any other businesses, including Beautilandia, who may have suffered damage from the fire.
“We can report that because fire crews were able to contain the fire to one building, Wellington Avenue businesses including Fresh Slice, This and That Thrift, Chilliwax Records, Teddy Bear Dreams, and Lotsa Art Gallery will be open as of noon today,” the association wrote. “We have spoken with business and building owners this morning and we will be with them every step of this recovery process.”

The blaze has destroyed the structure above Beautilandia, a beauty supply shop that recently opened in the 45800 block of Wellington Avenue. It’s not immediately clear how much damage the downstairs beauty supply incurred, but there is yellow caution tape impeding access to the store.

There are shards of glass at the front entrance to Jin Sing Jewellers at 45867 Wellington Avenue just next door, and it has yellow caution tape impeding access to it as of Wednesday morning.

Yellow caution tape is also blocking access to the front entrance of E. Yong Oriental Restaurant at 45861 Wellington Avenue, and the Crime Prevention Services office at 4577 Wellington Avenue.

Fraser Valley Today spoke with a female employee of This N That, a thrift shop at 45889 Wellington Avenue. She said the business experienced minor flooding from water used to fight the overnight blaze. Aside from a few waterlogged carpets, their business was still slated to open Wednesday morning without extensive additional damage.

It’s not known how much damage a tattoo shop at 45883 Wellington suffered, or if businesses like Freshslice (45887 Wellington) and Penguin Ice Cream were impacted. There was no yellow caution tape outside their businesses Wednesday morning.
