Unity Christian one win away from provincial championship
CHILLIWACK — The Unity Christian basketball team is just one win away from a spot in the B.C. School Sports Boys Basketball Provincial Championships.
Unity Christian defeated Kelowna’s Immaculata Regional High School 99-40 on Thursday. The Flames held a six-point lead after one quarter but turned it up a notch by extending the lead to 28 at the half.
Unity Christian, the defending 1A champions, had five players in double figures headlined by Caleb Friesen’s 24 points, while teammate Rio Kingma had 18 points.
No. 3-ranked Unity will play No. 2 seed Haida Gwaii in the 1A tournament today at the Langley Events Centre. If Unity prevails, they would play the winner of No. 1 St. John’s School versus No. 4 Southpointe Academy.
