Shots fired in Abbotsford Sunday morning after property owner finds man on his property

ABBOTSFORD — Police in Abbotsford are investigating an incident of shots fired at a Harris Road property early Sunday morning (Dec. 8).

According to a statement from AbbyPD spokesperson Constable Scott McClure, police were dispatched for a report of shots fired at a property in the 31500 block of Harris Road at 6:17 a.m. The property in question is located several kilometres northwest of Abbotsford and appears to be near, or around rural farmland as per Google Maps street view.

Police have determined that a property owner arrived to find a man on his property, resulting in an interaction between the property owner and the male suspect, who subsequently discharged a firearm and fled on foot. No one was injured during the exchange.

The Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Service, Lower Mainland District Emergency Response Team, and RCMP Air Services (Air One) assisted with the initial response and subsequent search of the area; however, the suspect was not apprehended.

AbbyPD’s Major Crime Unit officers are in the early stages of the investigation and believe this to be an isolated incident. Police have asked that area residents and citizens remain vigilant by and report any suspicious activity to the Abbotsford Police Department. The outstanding male suspect was last seen wearing a black hoody with a Quicksilver brand logo on the back, dark jeans and a light-coloured ball-cap.
