VANCOUVER – Former Chilliwack MLA Dan Coulter has been hospitalized following a “serious medical emergency,” according to the BC NDP.

In a statement released Friday afternoon, NDP provincial director Heather Stoutenburg said Coulter is “currently in hospital” receiving medical care after an unspecified health episode.

“We’re asking everyone to keep Dan in their thoughts and send him love and support,” Stoutenburg said.

“Dan’s family is asking for privacy as many are traveling from afar to be with him. We do not have any further information at this time.” Coulter is the incoming provincial director of the BC NDP.

He was elected as the MLA for Chilliwack in 2020 and served as the Minister of State for Infrastructure and Transit.

In 2024, Coulter ran for re-election in Chilliwack-North but was defeated by Conservative candidate Heather Maahs.

Coulter also served as a trustee on Chilliwack’s Board of Education from 2013 to 2020 and was the former president of CUPE 3787, according to his member page on the Legislative Assembly’s website.
