CHILLIWACK — Multiple Chilliwack firefighters from two fire halls were dispatched Monday night (Nov. 4) to the 8800 block of Nowell Street for a garage fire on the property of a vacant home.

Assistant Fire Chief Krista Minar told Fraser Valley Today over the phone Tuesday morning that firefighters from Halls 1 (Cheam Avenue) and 4 (South Sumas Road) were dispatched just after 9:30 p.m. A detached garage sustained some minor damage.

The vacant home itself wasn’t impacted, and there were no injuries. Emergency Support Services personnel weren’t required because the home is vacant.

The fire is under investigation. Assistant Chief Minar said anyone with information about the fire is welcome to contact Crime Stoppers (1-800-222-TIPS).

Minar said Chilliwack firefighters were very busy Monday, a day that saw multiple service calls due to strong winds from a potent weather system.

“We’re fortunate in that we have a really good team,” Minar said. “They were busy, they were active, and were able to kind of work through all that.”
