BURNABY — Mounties in Burnaby say charges have been approved against a 41-year-old man after he was identified as an alleged suspect in six separate incidents of theft at one retail store at Metrotown in Burnaby.

According to a news release from Burnaby RCMP spokesperson Corporal Mike Kalanj, six alleged thefts were captured on surveillance video from September 8-17. Police say over $56,000 worth of merchandise was stolen.

Police conducted what it calls “targeted enforcement” in the mall on September 28, 2024 in response to the rash of thefts. Their efforts paid off as Burnaby RCMP’s Community Response Team located and arrested the suspect.

Cpl. Kalanj says B.C. Prosecution Service has approved six charges of theft over $5,000 against 41-year-old Darryl John Dolan.

“The partnerships our team has fostered with local businesses has gone a long way in progressing files like this into the court system,” said Sgt. Neil Jones of Burnaby RCMP’s Community Response Team. “Often, there are only a few individuals responsible for an overwhelming number of these types of crimes, which makes these targeted enforcement projects necessary.”

The suspect remains in custody. The file is now before the courts, meaning police won’t comment further.

The Burnaby RCMP file number is 24-31037.
