AGASSIZ – A driver is dead following a two-vehicle crash on Highway 7 just northeast of Agassiz, according to the RCMP.

Investigators say a passenger vehicle and a semi-truck collided in the 9500-block of Lougheed Highway shortly after midnight on Monday.

‘Sadly, the driver and sole occupant of the passenger vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, despite life-saving efforts by police, BC Emergency Health Services, and the fire department,’ an RCMP spokesperson said in an email.

Highway 7 at Wahleach Road was closed for just over 10 hours, with traffic near Hope rerouted while Agassiz RCMP and a collision reconstruction team investigated.

The driver of the semi-truck remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, according to police.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation.

The road reopened to traffic just before 11 a.m.
