CHILLIWACK — A Chilliwack-based non-profit that serves marginalized women and girls in Chilliwack says it has added new staff members as it expects to assist more than 60 women locally this year.

Pearl Life Renewal Society, which seeks to improve the well-being of sexually exploited girls and women in Chilliwack, wrote in its fall newsletter that it has hired Tamara, who was previously one of its founding staff members, and Cindy, a client care to bolster the work of its outreach.

Tamara returns to Pearl as its program coordinator and will be teaching and developing supportive programming for the initial steps of change, and sharing her experience, strength and hope.

Cindy joins Pearl as its client care coordinator and administrator, helping with intakes, application processes and data tracking. Cindy possesses a background in finance but has been working with vulnerable population groups for the past seven years, Pearl wrote.

Pearl reports that it has become a recognized agency for practicum placements for students attending University of the Fraser Valley and Sprott Shaw Community College. They currently have two practicum students on their casual staff and expect to welcome additional student placements during the month of October.

“Since we have doubled the number of intakes and visits, these new developments will be a significant help to the work we are doing,” Pearl wrote in its fall newsletter.

Pearl works collaboratively through trauma-informed practices, strength-based supportive services, empowering women to make steps for lasting change. It offers a drop-in day program three days a week where women can have home-cooked meals, access laundry services, have a shower and flourish in a non-judgemental, safe place to grow while exploring resources. It is also a place where women can connect with service providers and families in a supportive environment.
