BC Transit touts expanded Fraser Valley Express bus service starting this fall

CHILLIWACK — BC Transit says the Fraser Valley Express commuter bus that facilitates travel between the Fraser Valley and Metro Vancouver will expand starting next month.

According to a news release Tuesday (Aug. 20) from spokesperson Jamie Weiss, BC Transit and the Fraser Valley Regional District say a service change will go into effect for Fraser Valley Express effective Tuesday, Sept. 3.

Weekday trips are being added during the evening peak hours in the evening as well as non-peak evening hours, meaning two eastbound trips in the morning will now end at the McCallum Park and Ride in Abbotsford.

Earlier service will be added on Saturday mornings; the first trip will leave Chilliwack at 6:45 a.m. Saturday.

Trips will run every 30 to 40 minutes on Saturday and Sunday mornings and in the early evening. One short trip has been added to Saturday and Sunday evenings between Lougheed Station and McCallum Park and Ride to reduce what BC Transit calls “current capacity challenges.” Earlier service will be added on Sunday mornings, with the first trip leaving Chilliwack at 8:35 a.m.

The additional service hours are being attributed to a rise in local government and provincial funding. BC Transit says an operating grant provided in the 2024-25 provincial budget will allow BC Transit and its local government partners to continue to provide safe and reliable service and demonstrates that public transit remains a priority in our communities.

Simultaneously, BC Transit says it encourages its customers to use the Umo app, Transit App, Google Transit or any other app of their choice for real-time bus tracking and planning their next transit journey.
