Drivers headed for the Interior could face poor weather
VANCOUVER — Travellers headed through the Coquihalla Highway or along the northern stretch of the Fraser Canyon Friday, should be prepared to deal with some bad weather.
Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the Fraser Canyon (north including Lillooet), Nicola (north of Hope through Merritt) and South Thompson regions.
“There is a heightened risk of debris flows over areas impacted by recent burn scars. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads,” the weather agency states.
Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
