LIUMCHEN MOUNTAIN (FRASER VALLEY AREA E) — A new wildfire has been detected southeast of Cultus Lake, close to the U.S.-Canada border, by provincial firefighting personnel.

According to a news tip from Chilliwack resident Ross Aikenhead, Fraser Valley Today has learned that a 0.1-hectare fire is now burning south of the Chilliwack River Valley, just east of Liumchen Mountain. Its location has been designated as exactly 4.9 kilometres west of Tamihi Creek, generally southeast of Cultus Lake. This information has been confirmed by the BC Wildfire Service dashboard.

The suspected cause is under investigation. BC Wildfire Service says wildfire investigations often take time and can be very complex. Investigations may be conducted by one or more agencies, including the BC Wildfire Service, the Compliance and Enforcement Branch, the RCMP, or other law enforcement agencies, and may be cross jurisdictional.

This fire is considered out of control and is located wholly within the Coastal Fire Centre. It is the second fire discovered within the greater Chilliwack area. Earlier in the day, a small fire was located southwest of Harrison Mills near Harrison Hill.
