Wildfire reportedly started by lightning spotted west of Agassiz Friday: BC Wildfire Service

HARRISON MILLS — BC Wildfire Service says a small fire has been spotted west of Agassiz Friday near Harrison Hill in the Harrison Mills area.

According to the BCWS dashboard, the fire was first discovered Friday morning, August 9. The fire is only .009 hectares in size but is considered out of control.

The suspected cause is lightning, as BCWS says, “When lightning strikes an object it can release enough heat to ignite a tree or other fuels.”

BCWS says the fire is in, or on, an “extreme slope” and actionable objectives are being investigated. There are no threats to values at this time. Community members should expect to witness smoke in the area.
