Truck rolls over, takes out BC Hydro pole in rural Chilliwack Tuesday morning

CHILLIWACK — A commercial big rig believed to be at least a five-ton truck, possibly bigger, rolled over on Prairie Central Road in rural Chilliwack Tuesday morning (July 30), resulting in damage to a BC Hydro pole and traffic disruptions to the east-west road that runs parallel to Highway 1.

According to scanner traffic, and a news tip from Chilliwack resident Julie Hiscock, Chilliwack Fire, B.C. Ambulance Service, Chilliwack RCMP, and BC Hydro were all dispatched for a vehicle incident in the 49100 block of Prairie Central. The call came in about 10:36 a.m.

A Fraser Valley Today reporter visited the scene and witnessed a commercial big rig on its side on the north side of Prairie Central Road.

Traffic was initially blocked by two Chilliwack Fire Department engines in both directions, before two fire engines cleared and traffic flagging personnel arrived on scene to redirect traffic.

BC Hydro crews arrived on scene at 11:06 a.m., followed by two RCMP SUV units at approximately 11:09 a.m.

The driver is said to be okay, according to a person who commented on Facebook and said she was there at the scene of the crash around the time that it rolled over.

The cause of the motor vehicle incident is under investigation.
