No injuries but three families left homeless after fire rips through Chilliwack townhouse Sunday morning

The Chilliwack Fire Department said approximately 40 firefighters from Halls 1, 2, 4, 5, and 6 responded to the blaze and were able to knock down the flames before the fire could spread to other homes in the neighbourhood.

Witnesses at the scene say the fire occurred in a townhouse.

While there were no injuries in the fire, fire officials say three families have lost their homes.

Fire crews also found that smoke alarms were not working in all of the units. Fire officials are urging residents to test their smoke alarms monthly and replace them as per the manufacturer’s instructions. Each level of a home should have smoke detectors as well as every sleeping area. Smoke detectors can be connected together so that when one detector goes off, all others will as well.

The Fire Department says there were no injuries to the occupants or the firefighters.

Meantime the cause of the fire is under investigation by fire officials and the RCMP. Investigators are interested in speaking with anyone with information regarding the blaze. Information can be passed along through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or by calling the local RCMP detachment.
