Upper Fraser Valley RCMP confirms a man has died after being hit by a car in Agassiz

AGASSIZ — Upper Fraser Valley RCMP spokesperson Corporal Carmen Kiener has confirmed that a male pedestrian died after being hit by a vehicle on Lougheed Highway (Hwy. 7) in Agassiz Monday night, west of Maria Slough.

In a phone call with Fraser Valley Today at 9:25 a.m. Tuesday morning, Cpl. Kiener says the male was pronounced deceased on scene.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and has been cooperative. No criminality is suspected at this point, Cpl. Kiener said, since the driver has been cooperative and remains cooperative.

The investigation is ongoing.

Personnel Lower Mainland Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service were dispatched to investigate the fatality.

Lougheed Highway was closed for several hours due to the vehicle incident, which happened at approximately 10 p.m.

A message posted at 2:35 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28 by DriveBC on its X/Twitter account stated: “Highway 7 closed in both directions. Vehicle incident between Maria Lane and Lophet Road (Kent). Road closed. Assessment in progress. Use an alternate route. Next update at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.”

Lougheed Highway has since reopened.
