Chilliwack Search and Rescue, paramedics dispatched Sunday night for rescue mission in Chilliwack backcountry

CHILLIWACK — First responders like police, paramedics and search and rescue personnel go the extra mile to help rescue anyone in a pinch in Chilliwack and the surrounding backcountry.

Case in point, Chilliwack Search and Rescue, Chilliwack RCMP and B.C. Ambulance Service were dispatched for an apparent rescue mission deep in the Chilliwack River Valley Sunday (May 19), culminating in one patient being transported to hospital via ambulance.

According to Chilliwack River Valley resident Derrick Kramer, helicopters were swirling in the area of Radium Lake Sunday evening during the Victoria Day long weekend for what appears to be a rescue at Radium Lake.

Radium Lake is located south of Chilliwack Lake Road, and west of Chilliwack Lake Provincial Park. It features a campground on the east side of the lake.

Images shared by Derrick Kramer with Fraser Valley Today show a helicopter, a Chilliwack Search and Rescue truck, two B.C. Ambulance Service units, two uniformed RCMP members, and at least five CSAR personnel on scene along Chilliwack Lake Road.

Kramer said he witnessed a man with some kind of injury being loaded into the back of an ambulance at approximately 8:45 p.m. Sunday night. Kramer shared a picture of a male patient being loaded into the back of a ground ambulance, and noted the patient appeared to be OK.

No air ambulance was utilized to transport the patient, Kramer said.

The Chilliwack SAR helicopter landing zone was located at the end of the east fire break in the Chilliwack River Valley and Chilliwack Lake Road.
