Suspicious vehicle investigation underway near Hope

HOPE – Hope RCMP are investigating a suspicious vehicle that was spotted Friday (May 17) morning in the area. Police say they were alerted to the vehicle traveling eastbound on Highway 1 near Herring Island at 8:55 a.m.

Officers were able to locate the vehicle later in Hope. However, they were unable to stop the driver due to safety concerns for other motorists.

A short time later, multiple reports came in about a vehicle stopped on the Coquihalla Highway near the Great Bear Snowshed. Witnesses reported seeing at least one person fleeing from the vehicle after it had stopped.

Hope RCMP, with assistance from an Integrated Police Dog Service member, responded to the scene to search for anyone associated with the vehicle. During the search, officers found and detained a woman who was later identified as the vehicle’s passenger.
