CHILLIWACK — A man with a weapon was arrested Tuesday morning (May 14) by Mounties in Chilliwack after he was asked to leave Shoppers Drug Mart on Yale Road but refused.

According to a brief statement from Chilliwack RCMP Corporal Carmen Kiener, police were called to the store after a man carrying a weapon was asked to leave the store and refused to vacate the property.

Cpl. Kiener says the male suspect was injured as a result of the weapon and the way he handled it. Police were not injured.

Cpl. Kiener says the male is being held for court on various charges being recommended by police for Crown consideration.

A picture sent to Fraser Valley Today by a Chilliwack resident shows multiple police cars in the parking lot of Southgate Plaza at 45905 Yale Road where Shoppers is located. One witness described seeing one police officer carry a rifle and hustle toward the store during the police incident.

An online commenter said the weapon was a knife, and security and RCMP moved quickly to detain the suspect.
