Alberni Valley takes two-game lead over Chilliwack Chiefs in BCHL second round
CHILLIWACK — Hayden Stavroff scored two goals to the lead the Alberni Valley Bulldogs to a 3 – 1 win over the Chilliwack Chiefs Saturday (Apr. 20) in BCHL second-round playoff action. The decision gives the Bulldogs a 2 – 0 lead in the best-of-seven series.
After a scoreless first period, Lucas Buzziol staked the Bulldogs to a one-goal lead at the 8:43 mark of the second period. The Chiefs came back to tie the game at 18:46 with Savin Kirk’s first goal of the postseason.
But Stavroff scored with 21 seconds left in the period to send the Bulldogs to the second intermission with the lead. Stavroff’s second goal of the game came into an empty net with 35 seconds remaining in regulation time.
The Chiefs outshot Alberni Valley 34 – 11 over three periods. Netminder Callum Tung was sharp for the Bulldogs for the second straight night. He stopped all but one of Chilliwack’s shots to post the win while Austin McNicholas suffered the loss in the Chiefs net. Tung has stopped 62 of 64 shots over the first two games of the series.
