CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack RCMP closed Spruce Drive just west of Vedder Road in Chilliwack Tuesday afternoon after a pedestrian suffered significant injuries from being struck by a car.

According to Corporal Carmen Kiener, spokesperson for the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment, police were called to Spruce Drive at 10:50 a.m. Tuesday morning (Mar. 12) for the report of a pedestrian who had been struck.

Cpl. Kiener said police are investigating the incident, and will be working with personnel from the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service.

Personnel from ICARS routinely collect and review evidence that may determine factors leading up to collisions.

According to scanner traffic earlier Tuesday, Chilliwack Fire Department personnel were dispatched to the area. On arrival, they found a man on the ground who had been assisted by bystanders in the area.

Multiple RCMP officers investigating the incident stood in the middle of Spruce Drive at 12:48 p.m. conferring with one another. Several RCMP vehicles were parked in the vicinity of the incident.

Cpl. Kiener told Fraser Valley Today over the phone that the pedestrian has been transported to hospital.

When asked whether the driver was cooperating with police, police could not provide that information since the investigation was still in its early stages.

B.C. EHS released the following statement about today’s incident.

“BC Emergency Health Services received a call at 10:46 a.m. today, March 12, regarding a motor vehicle incident involving a pedestrian on Spruce Drive near Eden Street in Chilliwack,” according to public information officer Brian Twaites. “Two ground ambulances responded to the scene. Paramedics cared for one patient, who was transported to meet a BCEHS air ambulance and flown to hospital in critical condition.”
