MISSION — Mission is kicking off its first-ever clean-powered movie night with a very fitting screening of Disney’s “Hoppers”.

On July 10, residents are invited to Fraser River Heritage Park for the city’s first outdoor movie night powered entirely by an electric vehicle charged with BC Hydro’s renewable energy.

“Events like this show how clean energy can support community life in new and inspiring ways – from powering homes and businesses to creating memorable moments for families,” said BC Hydro CEO Charlotte Mitha.

“What excites us most is the combination of community, connection and innovation, and that we are able to build awareness of the work we’re doing beyond supplying electricity.”

Partnering with Fresh Air Cinema, the event that once required noisy, gas-powered generators will now use an EV battery that emits minimal noise and fumes.

“Outdoor movies have always been about bringing communities together,” said Jason Bashnick, managing director of Fresh Air Cinema. “And with innovative clean‑energy solutions, this event represents more than a technical upgrade, it marks an evolution in how outdoor movies can be delivered.”

“Hoppers” follows an environmentally-minded young woman who uses new technology to travel through the animal world.

The free event is set to begin at sunset, around 9:15 p.m. BC Hydro plans to bring more of these movies to Comox and Revelstoke over the coming weeks.
