Brady Keith opened the scoring to start the Saturday night game at Chilliwack Coliseum, the second in a six-game homestand.

Surrey was next to get on the board but Keith regained the Chiefs’ lead later in the first period, set up by Milan Mrsic out front.

Each team added a goal in the middle frame with Chilliwack’s coming from Tate Hanson after he was awarded a penalty shot when a Surrey player hooked him on his breakaway.

According to a game summary from the Chiefs, the Eagles tied it up at 3-3 in the third period.   With tensions high, a late-period Eagles penalty gave the Chiefs a chance to take the lead back but they couldn’t make it happen.

Then came a big penalty kill in overtime after a five-minute major was assessed to Brandon Osborne for head contact.

The extra frame went scoreless, resulting in both teams’ first shootout of the season.

Justin Dumais was the chosen first shooter for the Chiefs but the winning goal came from Peter Murray, Chilliwack’s latest addition.

As part of their Remembrance Day ceremony, the Chiefs welcomed 100-year-old veteran Bernie Hops for a ceremonial puck drop.

The Chiefs next play the Alberni Valley Bulldogs on Friday, November 13 at 7:00 p.m. in Chilliwack.

It will be Country Night at the Coliseum with rising local country star Morgan Griffiths.
